Nella's 2 for 2 Fund
I am going to step outside of my normal scope of topics here at the Great Green Room to share with you a great blog, a great family, a great little girl, and a great cause that need your support. About a year and a half ago, as I was first dipping my toes into the water of blogland. I stumbled across a little blog called Enjoying the Small Things. Inspired by Kelle's amazing writing and beautiful photography, I began to poke around her sight a bit and quickly noticed two things; She had an adorable daughter about the same age as E, and her daughter had down syndrome. After reading Nella's birth story I was instantly hooked on the blog and my heart had been changed forever. The way she captured the pain and raw emotion of learning her newborn daughter had down syndrome struck a chord with me. The love and acceptance that she described inspired me. The stereotypes of down syndrome that I'd carried throughout my entire life were shattered and I saw what a wonderful gift little Nella was not only to her family, but to the world. As I have followed their story for the past year and a half. I have learned even more about children with down syndrome and their amazing capabilities. I love reading about Nella and seeing pictures of her doing the very same things that my daughter is doing and recognizing that they are not all that different. In celebration of Nella's upcoming second birthday, the Hampton family has launched the 2for2 fund with the goal of raising 200,000 dollars for the National Down Syndrome Society. They are well over half way to their goal and with the scope of people reached by Enjoying the Small Things, I have no doubts that they will get there. All I ask is that if you have been inspired the way I have by this family's story, that you do what you can to help out whether that be through spreading the word, prayer, or donation. I also encourage you to poke around Kelle's blog a bit for yourself because I promise you will be inspired by her positive outlook on life and her ability to "enjoy the small things"!
